"I learned a lot this summer, particularly how an arts nonprofit works and how we have to do a lot with a little in terms of money and resources. I’ve gotten really good at asking people for free things, especially my parents. I’ve also worked with so many amazing people who didn’t once yell at me. Most importantly, I’ve reaffirmed many times over the importance of art institutions like Artpace, the positive effect we have on artists and the community, and how necessary a place like Artpace is, where artists can have a space to simply create. My internship at Artpace was an experience I will continue to carry with me and reflect upon."
--Joshua Baize, 2017 Summer Intern, Artpace
In 2013, Bexar County Commissioners Court, established an internship program for local nonprofit arts organizations and asked theArtsFund to administer the program. The annual Internship program provides a grant to ten non-profit arts organizations locally, to hire a college undergraduate student to Intern for 10 weeks over the summer to assist with seasonal or special projects. The program is open to currently enrolled undergraduate college students who are Bexar County residents, attending a college or university in Bexar County or attending a college outside of the county as long as the student is a resident of Bexar County.
Over the 10 weeks during the summer, selected interns work full-time, giving the selected undergraduate students meaningful on the job training and experience working with a nonprofit arts organization. Selected students will develop a closer understanding of how the arts benefit their community along with real world applications of business skills that can be applied to their careers.
